2011 NIGHT LEAGUE

Round 2

BUSH RANGERS 76 OUTLAWS 73

The Outlaws opened up with a 7-3 in race 1 when Bobby McMillan and Daniel Pudney outgunned Paul White and Daniel Bax but the scores evened up in race 2 when Joel Chadwick and Tony Bax crossed the line ahead of Jarod Weinert and Tyrone Walters.

He lead see-sawed until race 8 when the Bush Rangers took a 6-4 in race 8 and 9 putting them 6 points ahead of the Outlaws 48-42.

The Outlaws had a number of heats where they were leading but the thought of increasing their point score was their downfall as their riders either crashed or slid on the wet track.

The last 3 heats before the ‘seeded heats’ were even scores so after race 12 it was 63-57 in favour of the Bush Rangers.

Heat 13 saw Farren Wills and Paul  White score 6-4 against Jarod Weinert and Tyrone Walters who were unlucky as Weinert took a tumble trying to pass Wills.

Heat 14 finally saw the Outlaws pick up a 7-2 with Brad Hoppo and Daniel Pudney strolling home after the gate exclusion of Daniel Bax.

With only 3 points the difference going into the final race it was Bobby McMillan who was doing the challenging but once again he went down and it took him the 2 laps to catch up to Cameron Crisp who was scooting around after losing his chain in lap 2. Joel Chadwick won the even scoring race.

The Night league moves to Findon on Wednesday July 6th when the Bandits take on the Bush Rangers to see who goes to the top of the League Ladder.

Bush Rangers:  Joel Chadwick 19, Cameron Crisp 13, Farren wills 13, Tony Bax 11, Paul White 11, Daniel Bax 9

Outlaws: Daniel Robb 15, Bobby McMillan 14, Brad Hoppo 14, Daniel Pudney 14, Tyrone Walters 9, Jarod Weinert 7

ROUND 1

Outlaws  73  v Bandits   75

It was a very cool crisp night at LeFevre and the track was fast after some great track work by Rob Fleming who also refereed the match.

The 6-man 12 race formula  with the 3 extra races using the seeded (by scoreline) riders was used and proved to be very popular but very demanding on riders fitness.

Both teams were very evenly matched with even points up to race 8 when the Outlaws scored a 6-4.  Bobby McMillan suffered a gate exclusion in race 10 which gave the Bandit a 7-2 score and take the lead 51-48.

The Bandits went on to score 6-4 in races 11 and 12.

The first of the ‘Minor Finals’ saw the Outlaws Represented by Tyrone Walters and Jarod Weinert score 5-4 against Jay Walters who came to the starting gate alone as his partner Robert Sellick failed to get to the starting grid.

Going into the 2nd of the finals the scoreline was 67-61 in favour of the Bandits but a brilliant 7-3 from Brad Hoppo and Bobby McMillan from Matt Gentle and Cody Chadwick put the scores at 70-68 in the Bandits favour going into the Final race.

The last race was an even pointer with Ty Geertsen and Brad Gentle for the Bandits finishing 1st and 4th and Daniel Pudney and Daniel Robb finishing 2nd and 3rd.

A great start to the Night League and round 2 is in 2 weeks time when the Outlaws come up against the Bush Rangers.

Night League Round 9 at Salisbury

OUTLAWS AND BUSH RANGERS DRAW  90-90

It was a cracker of a meeting with the Outlaws giving the Bush Rangers grief all the way to the final race. At race 10 the scores were level at 50 each. Race 11 saw the Bush Rangers score a 7-3 to put them 4 points ahead until race 14 when Brad Hoppo and the brilliant young gun Ryan Greenhalgh scored a 7-3 to level the scores again.  Ryan is a 13 year old with great style and strength who never gives in and should never ever be underestimated. Race 15 and Joel Chadwick /Scott Kinross put the Bush Rangers back in front with a 7-3. Races 16/17 are even pointers with the Bush Rangers leading going into the last race 87-83 when disaster struck coming out of turn 2 on the first lap.  Shane Weinert got  himself into trouble on the back wheel of Farren Wills and fell to his right and in sync was Tony Bax also falling to his right on his own at exactly the same time leaving Farren Wills and Tyrone Walters cruising easy to the finish line. Shane and Tony are thinking of starting up Synchronized Cycle Speedway’!

With 3 meetings to go (the Outlaws in all 3) there is a very slight chance that Outlaws can make the $1000 Final but they are going to have to knock off the top team Bandits (twice) which is highly unlikely.

OUTLAWS: 90: Cameron Crisp 15, Robert Fitzpatrick 15, Farren Wills 13, Brad Hoppo 12, Bobby McMillan 11, Tyrone Walters 10,

Ryan Greenhalgh 9, Nicole Kinross 4

BUSH RANGERS: 90:  Daniel Bax 16, Ross Priest 15, Joel Chadwick 15, Shane Weinert 13, Matt Mathews 12, Tony Bax 7,

Scott Kinross 7, Andrew Blatchford 5.

Night League round 8 at Findon  Bandits v Bush Rangers

Cody Chadwick spearheaded the Bandits to a very convincing win over the Bush Rangers in round 8 of the Night League which puts them as one of the ‘favourites’ to make to the sudden death $1000 Grand Final.  The Bandits and the Bush Rangers have 2 meetings each left and the Outlaws will be saddling up for all 4 of the remaining meetings.

Racing was fast and furious and the final score doesn’t do justice to the quality of the match.

Race 15 saw Shane Bentley in a spectacular ‘no hands’ and head first into the Pit fence after taking a hard bump from Tony Bax on Findon’s home turn.

It was great to see Matt Mathews racing (Bush Rangers) and let’s hope that he sticks to it.

Bandits: Cody Chadwick 19, Ty Geertsen 16, Matt gentle 15, Daniel Thompson 13, Brad Gentle 12, Shane Bentley 9, Jay Walters 7, Robert Sellick 6

Bush Rangers: Ross Priest 17, Daniel Bax 17, Joel Chadwick 14, Matt Mathews 10, Shane Weinert 9, Paul White 8, Tony Bax 6, Scott Kinross 3

Night League round 7

The Outlaws gave the Premiership leader Bandits one hell of a fright in round 7. Outlaws were in front for most of the match but the Bandits were cool calm and collective and took the lead on race 15 and went on to win 93-86.

Bandits were fortunate to have Brad Gentle who scored a very handy 10 points and it will be interesting to see if he can be relied on for the rest of the season.

Outlaws were also very lucky to have Robert Fitzpatrick back on the saddle as he rode brilliantly to score 13 points plus 1 fall. A very strong and fit Fitzy was back to his reasonably aggressive and entertaining style of racing and we can only hope that he will keep his enthusiasm going.

Ty Geertsen was in top form scoring 18 points for the Bandits.

3 meetings to go and it’s looking like a Bandits v Bush Rangers sudden death ‘Makepeace Plasterers’ Grand Final with the ‘winner takes all’ $1000-00.

Bandits: Ty Geertsen 18, Cody Chadwick 16, Daniel Thompson 14, Matt Gentle 14, Brad Gentle 10, Jay Walters 8, Shane Bentley 7, Robert Sellick 6

Outlaws: Daniel Pudney 17, Robert Fitzpatrick 17, Cameron Crisp 13, Bobby McMillan 12, Farren Wills 12, Nicole Kinross 10, Gabby Aston 7, Tyrone Walters 2.

Next Match is Wednesday Sept 15th  Bandits v Bush Rangers at Findon

ROUND 6

BANDITS BEAT BUSH RANGERS

Round 6 of the Night League was interesting as The Bush Rangers who were a rider short put up quite a fight against a strong and determined Bandits.  The Bandits suffered 2 exclusions in Matt Gentle and Jay Walters for gaining a position on the infield. Bush Rangers lost Daniel Bax in race 17 for gate movement which sealed their fate with the scoreline 79-87.

A special mention for the youngsters Sara-Jane Clee-Collins (BR)  and Shane Bentley (B)  who rode well to support their team.

Referee: Trevor Cryer

Bush Rangers:  Joel Chadwick 16, Paul White 15, Ross priest 15, Daniel Bax 11, Tony Bax 11, Sara-Jane Clee-Collins 8, Andrew Blatchford 6

Bandits:  Cody Chadwick 16, Ty Geertsen 16, Matt Gentle 12, Jay Walters 11, Daniel Thompson 11, Shane Bentley 10, Rob Sellick 9, Rob Fleming 8

ROUND 5

 OUTLAWS TAKE ROUND 5 CLIFFHANGER

The Bush Rangers held on to a 2 point lead for most of the match until Brad Hoppo and Daniel Pudney scored a 6-4 in race 16 against Paul White and Tony Bax to evens things up. Bobby McMillan and Robert (Slick) Sellick took a 7-3 in race 17 for the Outlaws against Daniel Bax and Shane Weinert to give the Outlaws 87-83 going into the final race with Ross Priest and Joel Chadwick (Bush Rangers) up against Cameron Crisp and Farren Wills. With the Bush Rangers needing a 7-3 to draw the match we all thought that they would make it as they had two of the Countries best riders but Crisp kept his cool and his 2nd position with Wills finishing 4th  restricting the Bush Rangers to a 6-4 and the Outlaws finally breaking their losing streak. It must be said that the Bush Rangers were very unlucky in that Ross Priest’s bike slid from under him whilst he was in the lead in race 2 and he finished 4th.

OUTLAWS 89

Daniel Pudney 18, Bobby McMillan 16, Farren Wills, 13, Cameron Crisp 13, Brad Hoppo 11, Tyrone Walters 10, Robert Sellick 6, Gabby Aston 4.

BUSH RANGERS 87

Joel Chadwick 14, Daniel Bax 14, Paul White 14, Tony Bax 14, Ross Priest 13, Shane Weinert 10, Scott Kinross 6, Andrew Blatchford 4

Referee: Ernie Osborne

Round 6 will be at LeFevre on Tuesday Aug 17th and will be Bush Rangers against Bandits. These 2 teams are currently battling it out to see who finishes top in the minor round.

Round 4 Bandits v Bush Rangers  --- 1st DIVISION

Round 4 of the 1st Division Night League was touted as going to be a clash of the Titans as the Bush Rangers were undefeated, but, unfortunately for the Bush Rangers they were minus their top gun Joel Chadwick who would have made a huge difference. The Bush Rangers were holding their own being only 4 points down up to race 10 but then the full strength Bandits scored a few 6-4’s and 7-3’a to pull away to win by a comfortable 23 points. As the Bush Rangers were more than 12 points down they were claiming grids 1 and 3 (‘Mercy Rule’) from race 15.

BANDITS: 101

Cody Chadwick 18, Ty Geertsen 16, Matt Gentle 16, Daniel Thompson 15, Shane Bentley 11, Jay Walters 10, Mark Sheldon 8, Rob Fleming 7

BUSH RANGERS: 78

Daniel Bax 14, Paul White 13, Ross Priest 13, Tony Bax 11, Shane Weinert 10, Andrew Blatchford 9, Scott Kinross 6, Braden Makepeace 2

   2nd DIVISION

The 2nd Division Night League woke everyone up as the youngsters battled each other in a very tight match with the Bush Rangers just 1 point in front as they went into the last race with Scott Kinross and Braden Makepeace up against Mark Sheldon and Shane Bentley who took the last with a 7-3 giving the Bandits a 3 point victory.

Bandits:  61

Bush Rangers: 58

ROUND 3 BANDITS V OUTLAWS

Round 3 of the Night League was held at Salisbury on a freezing cold night.

The Outlaws were minus a couple of their top riders due to illness and were replaced by 2nd Division riders 13 year olds Ryan Greenhalgh and Angus Elliott who displayed great talent and were impressive against the experienced riders.

It looked like an Outlaw victory as they held the lead until race 16 when Daniel Thompson and Jay Walters started the turnaround with a 7-3 to put the Bandits just 1 point behind the Outlaws   79-80.  Matt Gentle and Ryan Edson continued the onslaught with a 7-3 over Bobby McMillan and Daniel Pudney to put the Bandits in front 86-83.  The last race saw the Bandits with Ty Geertsen and Cody Chadwick coming out of grids 2 & 4 to take a 6-4 victory over Farren Wills and Cameron Crisp to seal the win on 92-87.

Matt Gentle is fit and back to his top form…watch out!

Bandits: Matt Gentle 19, Cody Chadwick 14, Ty Geertsen 13, Ryan Edson 13, Jay Walters 12, Robert Fleming 11, Daniel Thompson 7, Robert Sellick 2

Outlaws:  Farren Wills 15, Bobby McMillan 13, Cameron Crisp 13, Daniel Pudney 12, Nigel Greenhalgh 11, Ryan Greenhalgh 9, Tyrone walters 8, Angus Elliott 6

Referee:  Ernie Osborne

The top 2 teams will fight out the Grand Final in November for the $1,000-00 prize sponsored by Makepeace Plastering. (winner takes all.)

ROUND 2 Bush Rangers v Outlaws

The Bush Rangers looked like they were in trouble as the lead see-sawed up to race 15 when Joel Chadwick steered his team to the lead by getting the very talented Robbie Vella across the line for a 7-3. It was one of those brilliant meetings with a lot of tactical manouvres, lots of great passes and points changing through riders keeping the pressure on their opponents. Robbie Vella and Angus Elliott (who rode for the first time) were impressive and I am confident that they will do well in the night League.

Score: Bush Rangers 93 Outlaws 85

ROUND 1 Bush Rangers v Bandits

There has been a little ‘tweaking’ of the Night League teams to make them more even now that there is  $1,000 purse for the Premiership winner. Due to this adjustment it was decided to re-start the Night League afresh giving all riders equal opportunity in sharing in the prize.

Round 1 of the Night League was won convincingly by reigning Premiers Bush Rangers over The Bandits by 17 points. The Bandits were minus Cody Chadwick who has been out of racing for a few weeks after crushing his knee in a crash at the Indoor Go-Kart Centre.   There is a long way to go before the Finals and I’m confident that the Bandits will strike back with some extra depth being added to their team.

Bush Rangers  98 : Joel Chadwick 19 + 1, Daniel Bax 17, Ross Priest 15 +1, Shane Weinert 12, Paul White 10+1, Tony Bax 9, Scott Kinross 8, Robbie Vella 8.

Bandits 81 : Matt Gentle 18, Ty Geertsen 15 +2, Daniel Thompson 13 +1, Mark Sheldon 11, Jay Walters +1, Cameron Crisp 7, Rob Fleming 6, Darren Mathews 3.

Fleming excluded in race 9 for legging.

Referee: Brad Hoppo
